This is an era where society and systems of the world unconsciously drive us to have pressing issues to always delve into. There are always people to care for, tasks to attend to and never-ending deadlines. The circumstances and ills of life can be so distracting that we forget that there’s something valuable for us to treasure importantly—yourself. Yes you! You’ve gat just yourself to offer to the society. Your talents, your abilities, your energy, all forms of  resources are all being brought to the table as long as the word is concerned. But, most people forget to refresh and replenish their energy and so they burn out.

Prior to whatever you might have been told, self-love is different from selfishness and is an essential part of living. It is a necessary habit every person should exhibit. What then is self-love? It is simply the acceptance of whom you are and placing priority on your goals, health, happiness, and every other thing that concerns you. Restructuring the slogan for a popular advert concerned with the eradication of germs would say, “If you don’t take care of “you”, who will?

Self-love is the acknowledgement of the fact that you are a unique being and loving yourself for it.. Yes, there are billions of people in the world, but nobody has the same set of skills, talents, potentials, name, complexion and character like you do! Isn’t that amazing? Self-love is an intentional effort that requires you putting your needs first—physically, mentally, psychologically and even spiritually too—. Practicing self-love entails putting your well-being into consideration whilst going through the bustles and hustles of life.

To keep you at the top of your game, practicing self-love is important. Now, self-love means a lot of things to different people. It could be engaging in any of the following: –

  • Taking out an alone time: – There are several benefits attached to having a “me” time either daily, weekly or quarterly. A period where you just shut out every other thing else and feed your soul with that it wants
  • Focusing on your personal growth:- This is an essential part of practicing self-love. You must always be involved in activities and cultivate habits that propel you forward in your growth journey. It could be upgrading your skills, progressing in the academics or advancing in your profession.
  • Reading a book:-  Reading books have proven to be effective in the revitalization of the human soul. It improves your ability to reason and take informed decisions.

Other self-love bound activities are; listening to soulful music, eating healthy foods, taking yourself out in a date, decisively shying away from things that disturb your mental health, affirming positive words, developing healthy habits in terms of nutrition, exercise and in relationships with people and many more

Remember, there’s just only one “you” to contribute to the world and you must treat yourself with utmost care. Take a decision today to start practicing self-love!
